Petit Trianon and Queen’s Hamlet
The small castle of Trianon was given as a gift to Queen Marie-Antoinette by her husband Louis XVI in these words: “You like roses, Madame, so I am going to give you a very beautiful one”. The young queen begins the transformation of this safe haven far from the heavy etiquette of the court. The Queen’s Hamlet is an idyllic place to walk in the Trianon gardens. Ten small rustic-looking houses are arranged around the lake. The style is a blend of rural architecture and charming elegance. It was in this bucolic setting that Queen Marie-Antoinette certainly experienced the best moments of her life as queen and mother of three.
Let’s take a walk in this idyllic and peaceful setting, of enchanting elegance. I will tell you a thousand anecdotes of the days that the Queen spent here with her friends, her children and her so-called lovers …
