Jacquemart-André Museum

Musée Jacquemart-André, Italian sculpture, Paris, France

Jacquemart-Andre Museum, property of the Institute of France, presents in a magnificent mansion of the Second Empire, a collection of works of art worthy of greatest museums. The Museum still has the atmosphere of a grand mansion, making it a unique place in Paris. We’ll visit the rooms that were inhabited in the 19th century: official lounges, monumental staircase, winter garden, private apartments…

Edouard André, an art collector and his wife Nélie Jacquemart a reputated portraitist, travelled in Europe and in the Far East to acquire works of art and rare furniture. The gathered collections are among the most remarkable in France: Flemish and German schools are represented, painted frescoes by Tiepolo, fine furniture and tapestries. But it is mainly to the Renaissance art, especially Florentine and Venetian that Nélie Jacquemart devoted his attention: the first floor is dedicated to some master pieces of Italian art.

A very elegant tearoom with homemade dishes invites us, at the end of our visit, under its decorated ceiling.
