Arc of Triumph

The Arc of Triumph, Place Charles de Gaulle Etoile, Paris

Napoleon Bonaparte ordered the construction of this Triumphal Arch in honour of the French armed forces, but the Emperor never saw it completed, because he exiled on the island of Saint Helena. Completed in 1836, under the reign of Louis Philippe, the Arc has become a symbol of the Republic. It houses the tomb of the unknown soldier since 1921. At the top, a panoramic terrace, allows us to have an incomparable view on the Champs-Elysees and the business quartier de La Défense.

A visit in the footsteps of Military history from Napoleon I to General Charles de Gaulle!
